As is inevitable, Eric and I did the whole obligatory putting-away-Christmas-decorations thing the first week in January. I never look forward to it.
Not only is it a pain to do, but it also makes me really sad. Who doesn’t love Christmas right? You get gifts and you gain 10 pounds –what’s there not like?
For the most part, we were able to put away our decorations with limited pain. Until it came to this guy:
Here is Mr. Snowman, hanging out in front of our house with his fake cotton snow (us Southern California people like to pretend), and our Santa-clad dog (he likes to get in the spirit).
We have fond memories of Mr. Snowman. He was the highlight of our outdoor decorations, and a hand-me-down gift from my mother-in-law. I practically jumped up and down when she gifted him to us.
So obviously, Eric and I have problem because we are really attached to our Christmas ornaments. Anyway, when I asked Eric to put Mr. Snowman away, he didn’t want to.
I had already spent all day putting away decorations, and all he had left was Mr. Snowman. I left for my barre class and came back to find this:
Mr. Snowman was now in our living room.
Haha, very funny. One point goes to Eric.
We let him live there for a few days, and I finally had to move him into the garage out of the way of the cleaning ladies.
But I told Eric, he still has to disassemble Mr. Snowman and put him back into his box.
The next day, I came home and found this:
Mr. Snowman somehow found his way into our kitchen!
I decided I had to get back at Eric. But my plan didn’t exactly go like I wanted it to. Oh well. Mr. Snowman still lives in our garage, outside of his box. I am hoping Eric will finally put him away this weekend.

Wow, your dog is much bigger than I expected from the pictures!
Also, Arizona understands your need to pretend. Have you seen us decorate cacti? Good times.
he weighs about 35 pounds, he just looks big because of the hair. When he’s wet, he looks like a rat 😛
Christmas can be such a let down. All that planning and decorating and cooking only to take it all down at the end of the month. We just got rid of our tree last week. Our wreath is still up but it’s days are numbered.
You two seem to have such a fun marriage full of laughs, I love these stories! My Husband and I have an inside joke in which we leave empty toilet paper rolls in random surprise places to one another. Marriage really is about being strange together 😉
LOL, we have a giant stuffed “Santa” Mickey Mouse. One year, my husband and I played jokes on each other, and positioned Mickey around the house – doing dishes, vacuuming, taking a shower, driving our cars. Of course, that was before we had kids – now they’ve utterly destroyed poor Mickey.
That’s funny Mr.Snowman in your kitchen haha. I’ve put all our decorations away although the lights are still up outside. I leave them up all year although they are under the roof so they are hard to see. They are not an eye sore at all. I actually still put them on at night, likely for another week. I like to savour the holidays I guess.
Mr snowman is awesome! I think he deserves a place somewhere.
In Minnesota we have plenty of real snow and lights still twinkling. I think you should put Mr Snowman in your bed (like something out of The Godfather).
I agree it’s a lot of work to put down the decorations once you put them up. I used to never decorate for Chritmas, but once I had kids it kind of became mandatory. If I don’t now, they’ll beat me up later.
LOL love it! You should set him on the toilet or put him in the shower. 🙂 I took my xmas lights down jan 1st. No love lost-not a fan of Christmas. 🙂
How cute! I’m sure that was so funny to see him in a different place every day! I hate putting the decorations which consist of only our tree away just ’cause I’m lazy and don’t want to do it. It is kinda sad to see Christmas go but I always tend to feel a bit worn down by the food and the busyness of it all that I’m ready. I didn’t know you were a so cal girl…maybe I did at one time but forgot!
I would have trouble giving up Christmas if we decorated. Sucks having to put up and put down decorations for such a short holiday.
We didn’t put any xmas decorations this year. we were too lazy. Plus we got plenty of xmas spirit at our parents’ house. My mom and my mom in law both go crazy over xmas.
Aw, I have trouble letting go after Christmas as well. Everything seems a little nicer around Christmas time and then its January and everything is the same again. Good for your husband for trying to keep the spirit alive that much longer.
