They say bad things happen in threes…and I don’t know who “they” is but “they” are right.
I mentioned that our fridge broke and then we had to get it replaced. That was a $2500 expense we weren’t exactly expecting (that included delivery fee and taxes and a 5% discount for opening a Sears card).
The week before that, I couldn’t move my car’s stick shift thingy (except it’s not a stick shift, it’s an automatic, so what is that stick called?)
I had to use a screwdriver just to get it to the car repair shop.
I had to take video of it because it kept happening sporadically, so I wanted to make sure I could explain to the mechanic what the problem was.
Of course, I got pretty upset. It’s like all the bad car stuff happens to me.
Luckily, this time it wasn’t a $4000 repair, and it only cost $116 to get fixed. I think anytime your car repair comes out to less than $500, you have to get excited.
Yeah it sucks that you still had to spend money to fix it, but it could always be so.much.worse.
Of course, after the car was repaired, the fridge broke. And we had to spend two whole days with no fridge while we waited for our new one to get delivered.
And during this time, our furry child suddenly decided to yelp out in pain randomly. Like you couldn’t even touch him because he would scream bloody murder.
A trip to the vet and $78 later, we found out he sprained his back. Had to give him some doggie advil and put him on bed rest. Seriously, doctors’ orders.
He is so lucky we love him.
And also, just like car repairs, any time the vet bill is under $100, I have to smile with glee because I’m always prepared for a $200-300 bill, like that one time I broke his foot... or that other time I got soap in his eye…
This time–it was not my fault at all! Score one for the momma!
It hasn’t been all bad though. I ended up winning tickets to see Tyrone Wells at the House of Blues in Anaheim, thanks to this girl.
Before the concert, Eric and I went to Downtown Disney and had dinner at the Jazz Kitchen. The food was really freakin’ good but it was all soooo fatty and not the kind of food that either of us had eaten in a while.
So sure enough we both ended up getting stomach aches. The food was worth it though. Their chocolate bread pudding…I still have dreams about it.
I’ve seen Tyrone Wells in concert three times, and this was my fourth. He’s been great every single time. Tyrone was performing with Ben Rector and even though I had never heard of Ben, his set ended up being pretty good too.
We left around 10:30 because let’s face it, my bedtime is 10 and I turn into a pumpkin when I’m out that late.
Have you had any experience with bad things happening in threes?

I am glad the pup is ok! poor thing! and your car and the fridge (suuuucks not to have for a few days!!)…those things suck too but you made the best of it right?! xo
[…] most of you know, I’m an old lady when it comes to staying out past 10. I left a concert at 10:30 because I was ready to pass […]
That was really a misfortune in 3s. It hadn’t happen to me and I hope it won’t. It would absolutely stress me out.
Just goes to show the importance of emergency funds. Hope your “furry child” recovers quickly!
Poor little pup! There is no way that you could have predicted any of the three. I guess that why emergency funds are a must.
Ah that Murphy is a sonofabitch! It does seem like when it rains it pours. Just ask my far from earlier this year. 🙁 That little sock on your dog is so damn cute. Poor thing!
Ugh, that all sucks. And I try not to count when stuff goes wrong… it seems that the more I pay attention to bad things, the more bad things appear that want to be paid attention to. Hope the pup feels better soon. Nothing as disconcerting as when something (or someone) is not working properly and they can’t tell you what’s wrong.
Oh that’s terrible! I know how you feel though. When things go wrong, they seem to come in bunches!
Our bad things are usually on going that I lose track!
In recent….the stove died in August, now the government shut down, and our car died. So we are at the threes already…..
Oh, and the stick thing is called a gear selector!
Oh no! I’m glad your pup is okay. It definitely seems like when one thing goes wrong, everything does.
