In case you’re a new reader or just haven’t been paying attention (tsk, tsk), one of my most favorite things to complain about is Eric’s work schedule. I’m trying to get better, I promise, but he’s had to work every single Saturday for the past two months, giving us hardly any time to do anything exciting.
Last week, I finally said “Enough!” and took a day off work so that Eric and I could do, what we like to call, Husband-Wife Day. It really should be a national holiday.
Thursday night, I snuck out of work a little early and picked up a box of Edible Arrangements Chocolate Covered Fruit which were on sale last week for $10! Then we went to Blockbuster to rent two scary movies and stopped at our grocery store to pick up some frozen pizza. We used to do movie night all the time, but just haven’t had a chance since Eric started his new job.
Then on Friday, husband-Wife Day began! We chose to go apple-picking!
I know this may seem like such a dull thing for all you middle of the country or east coast people, but for us southern Californians, apple picking is a big deal. The closest apple orchard I could find was an hour and a half away! But it did not disappoint.
We had lunch as soon as we got there, and it was soooo yummy. Seriously. I devoured mine before I even remembered to think to take a picture. All the staff wears period costumes too. So it was fun to play along, and we tried to get into it and say things like “Yonder” and “How ye faring?”
They had some animals, like horses and goats–again, this is a BIG deal people. We don’t have horses around these parts.
And when it finally came to apple-pickin, that was fun too!
We ended up driving to San Diego afterward since someone didn’t want to listen to the GPS, but this Husband and Wife Day definitely turned out to be a Husband and Wife Adventure!
We had a great time, and it was fun to finally spend some quality time together.
The best part of Husband Wife Day was feeling like we were dating again. We never once mentioned budgeting or chores or work and instead focused on having a grand ole time.
Not only that, but it was such a budget-friendly trip as well!
We loved it so much, we definitely plan on having Husband Wife Day at least once a month!

Ooh that looks like it was SO much fun! Husband-Wife days are definitely helpful in keeping a happy and connected marriage. I gotta work on planning them more regularly. 🙂
i totally agree that there should be a holiday or something for husband/wife day! i love those days and i sure don’t get enough of them!!!
Ah, this is so cute! We were planning on going to a pumpkin patch after work tonight, but it’s super cold and dreary here. I think your pics make me want to go anyway though! Glad you guys got to spend some QT together!
LOL! No horses or goats? I understand llamas or moose (we have them here), but *giggle* you two are so cute
Which apple orchard did you go to? I’ve been looking for one to check out this fall.
lol I’m from the ‘middle of the county’ (upper midwest) and I think apple-picking sounds great! Of course I tend to think of things as an excuse to use my camera (my future kids will hate me someday for my never ending clicking!). Our apple orchards don’t have people dressing up in costumes though (that I know of). Looks like you had a lot of fun 🙂
Looks like a perfect Husband Wife day to me! ; )
Aw, yay! Also, that horse picture had me rolling with laughter! You crack me up! lol
Just when I think you two would be bored if youever came to visit me! I realize now that I could just stick you in the front yard at my parents and you would go crazy. Crack me up:)
